Faith Focused on Jesus
Sermon Notes

Hebrews 12:1-2 – The culmination of the “by faith” list is ___________________!
“Fixing our ___________ on ______________”
Mark 6:48 – “Pass them by” in Greek is the same technical term to refer to a ____________________.
Matthew 14:22-33 – As long as Peter ________________ on Christ, he was doing fine. When he took his ________________ off of Christ, he started to sink!
How do we develop minds that focus on Christ?

What did Jesus focus on? “For the _______________ _________ before ________________”

Hebrews 12 New International Version (NIV)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Hebrews 12 English Standard Version (ESV)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 12 New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)

12 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith, who for the sake of the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God.
